This newsletter is an important one, so I apologize in advance if it is longer than usual...
Too many of us stubborn fitness pros, myself included, have failed to do what is one of the easiest things to expand the scope of our business:
LOOKING OUTSIDE THE FITNESS INDUSTRY!
What other industries compliment what you do?
Which local small business in your area could you team up with in joint ventures or cross-promotions?
I've been way too "boxed in" for too long, and I am embarrassed to admit it.
I finally wisened up this past month and made two big moves that look to help explode my online and offline businesses by looking outside of the same old fitness realm.
Example#1- KOSS-WORKOUT MUSE: Rapid Fat Loss Workoutphones
As many of you know one of my superstar clients is the CEO of KOSS Stereophones. He is a big-time Workout Muse fan and we are going to be teaming up with cross-promotions of our complimentary products.Workout Muse is the ultimate digital training system and KOSS Stereophones further automates it as the sound industry's premier headphone company.
What am I most excited about is the KOSS TUGO which is a wireless mp3 headset that will have our WM soundtracks preloaded upon purchase... can't get anymore dummy proof than that baby!
My friend and colleague and member of my Make More Train Less Mastermind Group Greg Justice, who will soon be releasing the most COMPLETE corporate fitness boot camp system ever, is now more pumped than ever because this KOSS-WORKOUT MUSE Fusion will allow both him, myself, and any other fitness pros to pitch The Ultimate Corporate Boot Camp TO GO. Stay tuned for more on this... it is going to change the way our industry does business at the corporate level ;)
Example#2- Get Sexy Milwaukee Boot Camp Goodie Bags
The next one, I cannot take credit it for. It was my partner and sexy girlfriend Naomi who did the deed. Listen to what she did:"I thought up any local business that is beauty or health related, particularly ones we might have a relationship with (our stylists, corporate fitness programs).
I sent them an email or called them letting them know we are putting together goodie bags for our clients and we would love to cross promote with them. I offer their clients/customers an additional 10% off their first boot camp with us. To do this, I created coupons on cardstock (decent looking but relatively inexpensive), and printed them at kinkos.
Then they tell me what they are willing to provide, coupons, discounts, samples etc.
I arrange a pickup time and give them the coupons and they give me what they have to offer.
So far we have this in the goodie bag as a result:
Get Sexy Boot Camps T's (Provided by us)
Koss Headphones 25% Discount
$5 off groceries at Good Harvest (local Whole Foods-like Supermarket)
Buy one Lunch, get another free at Good Harvest
Buy a pair of Sneakers get a free pair of Feetures! Socks (Athlete's Foot)
Bags from a local salon with product samples and service menus (very pretty!)
Still waiting on a few more things..."
We have already generated a ton of buzz among our cross-promoters that will look to drive more people into our boot camps. For example, "hair man Dan" as he is called, has been showing some of the crazy exercises we do to all of his clients this past wek because he knows that every new client he refers is 25% off on his next boot camp... and he claims that every morning he is liking what he's seeing in the mirror more and more and just loving the workouts!
Also, don't just ask clients for help, ask to help them when you can. For example, one of our long-time boot camp clients finally made it to a workout after missing the first 5 workouts of this phase. I checked in with her before the start of the session to see what was up...
She said she's been struggling to get her new boutique business off and running and it's been very busy and stressful.
I sure as hell know what that's like... man, it's always a challenge, and small businesses need to stick together.
So I reassured her that we would help her out and that she should get some cross-promo material together to throw into our goodie bags. I am also going to send out a newsletter promoting her new biz to my boot camp list.
Why? Because she's a great client and she deserves our help. I am guessing she will have no problem returning the favor, but that's not the main reason why I did it. I did because, no matter how "cheesy" cynical people think it is to help people to better society as a whole, if you show people how much you care they'll go the extra mile for you and your biz, especially when you need it the most... think about it!
Lastly, here's a killer workout video from one of our corporate fitness boot camps using 40-20 Supersets that will give you some great ideas for your group training session. Take a look at what had my clients panting in a pool of their own sweat by clicking the link below:
